Renovation Company Whiteley

Southampton craftsmanship, Whiteley postcodes

Whiteley is twenty minutes from our Southampton base just off junction 9 of the M27, and it is a different kind of place from most of the towns we work in: a planned community that started in the late 1980s, paused in the mid-90s and has been growing ever since, with North Whiteley adding several thousand more homes through the 2020s. Nearly all of its housing is modern, and that shapes the work.

Whiteley homeowners rarely need a rewire or a damp survey. What they want is more space and a higher specification than the developer fitted: a rear or wrap-around extension to open up the kitchen, a garage conversion, a loft conversion where the roof allows, and kitchens and bathrooms upgraded properly. One in-house team handles design, planning, structural engineering, every trade and building control from first visit to handover.

Extending and upgrading modern homes in Whiteley

Whiteley's detached and link-detached houses from the 1990s and 2000s are structurally straightforward, which means the budget goes on space and finish rather than remedial work. The most common project is a single-storey rear extension with bifold or sliding doors that turns a modest developer kitchen into a proper open-plan kitchen-diner, and garage conversions are close behind, because so many Whiteley garages are used for storage rather than cars.

Loft conversions work on the house types with enough head height, and a growing share of our work here is simply doing the interior properly: a bespoke kitchen, bathrooms with wall-hung sanitaryware and underfloor heating, fitted wardrobes and joinery, and flooring throughout. On the newest North Whiteley homes, garden rooms and home offices are the usual first project.

Planning

Planning in Whiteley: which council handles your application?

Whiteley is split between two planning authorities. Most of the established village to the south and west sits in Fareham borough and applications go to Fareham Borough Council; the northern and eastern parts, including North Whiteley, sit in Winchester district and go to Winchester City Council. We confirm which applies to your address at the free site visit, because the two councils have different local plans and validation lists.

There is no conservation area in Whiteley, so the main planning question is whether your home's original permission removed permitted development rights, which is common on estates of this age. Where rights are intact, many single-storey rear extensions need no full application; where they were removed, even a modest extension or garden room needs one. Building regulations approval and building control inspections are needed whichever route applies, and we manage them for you.

Open-plan kitchen-diner in the Locks Heath extension by Pure Renovation & Design
Featured project

Kitchen extension, Locks Heath

A single-storey rear extension that turned a cramped kitchen into an open-plan kitchen-diner with bifold doors, a separate utility and matched Victorian brickwork. The kind of project we deliver across the Southampton area.

Extremely competent, trustworthy, and first class in every way. They cleaned up every single night, even wiping the floors. We have recommended them to others who have been equally delighted. If you want a first class result, get in touch.

We'd been let down badly before so we were cautious. The difference was obvious from the first meeting. They did exactly what they said, exactly when they said it. Remarkable.
