Kitchen Extension in Locks Heath, Hampshire

The Brief

Single-storey rear kitchen extension creating an open-plan kitchen-diner with separate utility room, in a semi-detached Victorian property in Locks Heath, Hampshire.

The Challenge

The existing kitchen was cramped and cut off from the garden. A load-bearing wall separated the kitchen from the dining area, and the original Victorian-era brickwork needed careful matching on the exterior. The client wanted a genuinely open-plan space with bifold doors to the garden, a separate utility room, and enough worktop space for serious cooking — all without the extension feeling bolted on to the original house.

The Result

The kitchen was more than doubled in size. A steel beam replaced the load-bearing wall, opening up a single flowing space from the front reception through to the garden. The bifold doors flood the room with natural light, the bespoke kitchen cabinetry was hand-painted on site, and the exterior brickwork was matched so precisely that the extension looks as though it has always been part of the house. The client described it as beyond what they imagined.
