Renovation Company Totton

Southampton craftsmanship, Totton postcodes

Pure Renovation & Design is registered at the New Forest Enterprise Centre on Chapel Lane in Totton, so when we say we are local here we mean it. Totton and Eling is the largest town on the western side of Southampton Water, sitting between the River Test and the eastern edge of the New Forest, and it is where a good share of our site visits happen.

The town has distinct neighbourhoods with distinct housing, from the early 1970s Calmore estate in the north and the extended Hounsdown area, to the 1980s and 90s homes of West Totton along Ringwood Road, to older properties around Eling and the town centre. We extend and renovate all of them, with one in-house team managing design, planning, every trade and building control from the first visit to handover.

Local knowledge

The homes we extend and renovate in Totton

Calmore was built in the early 1970s and Hounsdown was extended through the same decade, so a large part of Totton's housing is now fifty years old. These homes usually have solid bones and decent plots but dated layouts, small kitchens and original services. The projects we see most are a rear or wrap-around extension to create an open-plan kitchen-diner, and full renovations that replace wiring, plumbing, heating and finishes in one programme rather than piecemeal.

West Totton, developed through the 1980s and 90s towards Netley Marsh, is newer but often ready for a first proper refit: new kitchen and bathrooms, better insulation, and sometimes a garage conversion or single-storey extension. Around Eling and the older centre the stock is more varied and more sensitive, and matching brick, roof and window detail matters.

Planning

Planning permission in Totton: district council or National Park?

Most of Totton and Eling falls under New Forest District Council, which handles planning applications for the town. Many single-storey rear extensions qualify as permitted development, but every extension still needs building regulations approval and building control inspections, which we manage.

There is a local wrinkle that catches people out: part of the parish west of the A326 lies inside the New Forest National Park, where the National Park Authority is the planning authority and the rules are stricter. Eling also has a conservation area around the historic tide mill, one of the very few working tide mills in the country. If your home is in either, a planning application is likely and the design needs to respect the setting. We check which authority applies and tell you honestly at the free site visit, before any money changes hands.

Our work and what clients say

The bathroom they created stopped our friends mid-sentence when they first saw it. Worth every penny and then some.
