Renovation Company Romsey

Southampton craftsmanship, Romsey postcodes

Romsey is fifteen minutes from our Totton office via the A36, and it is one of the more rewarding places we work. The town centre around the Abbey, Market Place, The Hundred and The Causeway has been a conservation area since 1970, with Georgian frontages, Victorian terraces and old mills along the River Test. Around it are the newer estates and, beyond them, villages like North Baddesley, Ampfield, Braishfield, Awbridge and Timsbury.

We renovate and extend all of them: sensitive work on period homes in the conservation area, full renovations of post-war houses, and extensions and refits of modern family homes in North Baddesley, Nursling and Rownhams. One in-house team handles design, planning and any conservation consent, structural engineering, every trade and building control, with one point of contact from first visit to handover.

Renovating and extending homes in Romsey

In the town centre and the streets off it, Romsey's period homes call for a light touch and proper craft: matching brick and lime mortar, restoring sash windows and original joinery, and treating damp in solid-walled houses correctly rather than sealing it in. These are usually full renovations, with a rewire, replumbing, new heating and insulation done sensitively, sometimes with a modest rear extension where the setting allows.

Outside the centre and in North Baddesley, Nursling and Rownhams, the housing is mostly post-war and later, with the plots and structures that suit single-storey, wrap-around and double-storey extensions. The most common brief is an open-plan kitchen-diner with bifold doors to the garden, often paired with a refit of the rest of the house so it all reaches the same standard at once.

Planning

Planning permission in Romsey and the Test Valley

Planning in Romsey is handled by Test Valley Borough Council. Outside the conservation area many single-storey rear extensions fall under permitted development, though every extension still needs building regulations approval and building control inspections, which we manage.

The Romsey Conservation Area covers most of the town centre, including Market Place, The Hundred and The Causeway, and the council maintains an appraisal and management plan setting out the character it expects new work to respect. Inside it, permitted development rights are reduced and a planning application is usually needed, and listed buildings need listed building consent for most alterations. Several of the surrounding villages have their own conservation areas too. At the free site visit we tell you honestly which route your project falls under before any money changes hands.

Costs

What a renovation or extension costs in Romsey

Romsey prices sit in line with the wider Southampton area, with period homes in the conservation area tending towards the upper half because of the matching and consent work involved. Your fixed written quote breaks the figure down line by line and states VAT clearly.

Our work and what clients say

We had four quotes. Pure Renovation were not the cheapest. They were the only ones who could explain exactly what we were paying for and then deliver it. The extension is extraordinary.
