Most bespoke carpentry projects in Southampton run three to eight weeks from measure-up to installation. Roughly two thirds of that time is design, drawings, and workshop manufacture. We work primarily in solid hardwoods (oak, walnut, ash, tulipwood), high-grade veneered MDF and plywood for painted pieces, and laminate or Formica where durability is the priority. Hardware is always branded, soft-close, and specced for the life of the piece. We do not use chipboard carcasses. The material choice is always driven by how the piece will be used and how it will be finished.

Cost depends entirely on scale. A pair of fitted alcove units typically lands between £2,500 and £5,000. A run of fitted wardrobes along one wall usually runs £4,500 to £9,000. Handcrafted staircases start around £8,000. A full bespoke kitchen fit-out can run £15,000 to £40,000. A written quote breaks down timber, hardware, finishing, and installation separately, so you see exactly what is driving the number.

Yes. Matching existing joinery, especially in period properties, is something we do often. We take detailed measurements and profile samples of your existing skirting, architrave, panelling, or cornicing, then reproduce them in our workshop. New pieces sit next to the originals without looking bolted on. Once painted, most clients cannot tell which is which, which is exactly the point.

Look for three things. A portfolio of close-up photos showing actual joinery details, not just wide room shots. A written quote that breaks down timber, hardware, and finishing separately. And a company that builds in their own workshop rather than subcontracting manufacture to a third party.
