Renovation Company Marchwood

Southampton craftsmanship, Marchwood postcodes

Marchwood is the closest village to our Totton office, a ten-minute drive down the A326, which makes it one of the easiest places for us to visit, quote and build. The village grew through the twentieth century around the military port and the power station, and most of its housing is post-war and later family homes with the gardens and plots that suit an extension.

The projects we see most on the Waterside are rear and wrap-around kitchen extensions, full renovations of homes that have not been touched in decades, and bathrooms and kitchens refitted to a modern standard. One in-house team handles design, planning with New Forest District Council, structural engineering, every trade and building control from first visit to handover.

Local knowledge

Extending and renovating homes in Marchwood

Marchwood's housing is largely twentieth-century: post-war and 1960s to 1990s semis, bungalows and detached family homes, including former services housing, on plots that can usually take a 4 to 6 metre rear extension without losing the garden. The typical brief is an open-plan kitchen-diner with bifold or sliding doors, often paired with a new kitchen and bathrooms so the whole house reaches one standard at once.

Because so much of the stock is now fifty or sixty years old, a good share of our Waterside work is full renovation or refurbishment: rewiring, new heating, insulation, replastering and new kitchens and bathrooms in one programme rather than piecemeal. With the 1,000-home Bury Road scheme allocated in the Local Plan, Marchwood is also a village where new-build snagging-era upgrades, garden rooms and loft conversions are increasingly common.

Planning

Planning permission in Marchwood

Marchwood sits outside the National Park boundary, so planning is handled by New Forest District Council rather than the National Park Authority. Many single-storey rear extensions on the village's estates fall under permitted development and need no full application, although building regulations approval and building control inspections are needed whichever route applies, and we manage them for you.

There is no residential conservation area in Marchwood: the only designated area is the former Royal Naval Armaments Depot at the military port, which does not affect homes. Double-storey and side extensions, and anything that changes the front of the house, usually need a full application, and newer estates can have permitted development rights removed by planning condition, which we check on the decision notice at the free site visit.

The bathroom they created stopped our friends mid-sentence when they first saw it. Worth every penny and then some.
